La Maison Rousseau et Littérature (MRL) is seeking a Head of National and International Programming, Part-time

The Maison Rousseau et Littérature in Geneva, at the birthplace of writer and philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, offers a contemporary perspective on his work. The MRL organizes events dedicated to literature and social issues, bringing authors together with schools and the general public. A Maison that generates ideas, the MRL is known for its diverse set of missions and its location in the heart of Geneva's Old Town. It hosts a literary café; a thematic multimedia Rousseau exhibit; a large room for public events such as readings and meetings; a multipurpose room devoted to writing, philosophy, and mediation workshops; and, finally, three living spaces under its roof devoted to residencies. The MRL also engages in activities in the canton of Geneva.

Head of National and International Programming

Your Mission

As someone with great open-mindedness and a solid general cultural understanding, you seek out authors who are read and appreciated by the general public, entering a dialogue toward creating unique cultural offerings. You also know how to approach publishing houses, agents, or literary critics if necessary. You are ready for discovery and revelation, and to think outside the box. You are comfortable negotiating pay and financial frameworks. Thanks to your professional experience, you know how to integrate different working groups. Agile and aware, you are highly experienced in writing thematic and monographic programming. As you collaborate closely with MRL management, you listen and cooperate harmoniously with the person in charge of French-speaking Swiss literary programming. You are also required to interact and design events with a variety of specified partners. Finally, you seamlessly relay all relevant information to our various departments (administration, communication, tech and logistics, etc.).

 

Desired Profile

  • Confirmed literary expertise, network, and correspondence in the field of books and publishing ;

  • Good knowledge of the Swiss, French-speaking, and international literary fabric ;

  • 5 years minimum experience performing similar functions ;

  • Rigor, a sense of initiative and responsibility ;

  • An ability to work in a team as well as independently ;

  • Efficiency, respect for deadlines and hierarchy ;

  • Relational ease, an ability to adapt and anticipate ;

  • Trustworthiness and confidentiality required ;

  • Fluency in French, Swiss national languages, and English required ;

  • Flexibility in regard to working hours.

Terms

Permanent contract
Level of employment: 50% on average or depending on availability
Start date: January 1, 2024
Place of work: Geneva
