À l’heure où les démocraties du monde entier sont confrontées à des pressions croissantes, la démocratie directe pourrait-elle apporter une partie de la réponse ?
À l’occasion de la Journée internationale de la démocratie, cet événement bilingue d’actualité réunira des personnalités de premier plan venues de Suisse, de France et de la communauté internationale de la démocratie, afin d’explorer le rôle et l’avenir de la démocratie directe.
Les échanges porteront sur l’état de la démocratie directe dans le monde, sur son potentiel à transformer le paysage politique français à l’approche de l’élection présidentielle de 2027, ainsi que sur ce que l’expérience démocratique unique de la Suisse pourrait apporter au reste du monde. L’événement sera également l’occasion de réfléchir à l’évolution des relations entre citoyens, institutions et processus de décision politique.
Parmi les intervenant·e·s figureront Clara Egger, candidate à l’élection présidentielle française de 2027 ; le professeur Magni-Berton, politologue ; Raymond Loretan, président du Geneva Diplomatic Club ; Bruno Kaufmann, coprésident de la Swiss Democracy Foundation ; et Christine Lutringer, directrice exécutive de l’Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy de l’Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement (IHEID).
Le programme alternera courtes interventions d’experts, discussion interactive et séance de questions-réponses (Q&R), offrant aux participants la possibilité de partager leurs points de vue et d’échanger directement avec les intervenants.
At a time when democracies across the world are facing growing pressures, could direct democracy offer part of the answer?
On the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, this timely bilingual event will bring together leading voices from Switzerland, France and the international democracy community to explore the role and future of direct democracy.
The discussion will look at the global state of direct democracy, its potential to reshape France’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 presidential election, and what Switzerland’s unique democratic experience might offer to the wider world. The event will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the evolving relationship between citizens, institutions and political decision-making.
Speakers include Clara Egger, candidate in the 2027 French presidential election; Prof. Magni-Berton, political scientist; Raymond Loretan, President of the Geneva Diplomatic Club; Bruno Kaufmann, Co-President of the Swiss Democracy Foundation; and Christine Lutringer, Executive Director of the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy at the Graduate Institute.
The programme will combine short expert perspectives with an interactive discussion and Q&A, offering participants an opportunity to share their views and engage directly with the speakers.
